We woke up at 3:30am and arrived at the beach at 4:20am. Tired, cranky, and cold, we waited impatiently on the damp sand, apprehensive about whether we made a great mistake by going to this Sydney Festival event. At 5:30am, the Philharmonia Choir processed onto the beach. At the moment they projected the first note of the first song, our sleepiness and discomfort faded, and we were entranced by their voices. By the third song, the clouds were on fire illuminating the dark sky. Red, yellow, purple and blue hues stained the morning sky. The beauty of the beach during the sunrise was perfectly complimented by the melodious voices of the choir. It was an event well worth waking up for!
